​What Should be the Aim in Hair Transplant Operation?

The purpose of hair transplant applications is to  provide the desired natural and healthy hair with modern medical applications.

How long has hair transplant been applied?

Modern hair transplantation was first performed in Japan in the 1930s. In the Western world, it was first introduced in the 1950s. Hair transplantation techniques have been perfected by the advancement of technology and a better understanding of the structure of hair and scalp.

Who is suitable for hair transplant?

Nearly 50 percent of men over 50 years of age face the problem of hair loss now. For this reason, hair transplantation is the most applied cosmetic surgery by the men. Of course, hair loss is not only a male problem, many women may also experience hair loss or sparse problems.Hair loss can be seen as a result of genetic inheritance, aging, traumatic injuries or various medical conditions. Whatever the cause of hair transplantation, it can be successfully applied to all people if there is enough hair follicle in the body. It can be applied not only on the scalp but also on the losses in all areas with hair such as eyebrows, mustaches or beards.

Which methods are used for hair transplant?

FUE method which does not leave any traces in hair transplantation and FUT method that leaves traces on neck can be applied. In the FUE method, the hair follicles are removed one by one and the FUT method is removed from the nape. Persons who are candidates for hair transplantation should have healthy hair on the back and sides of their heads to be used as donor area. Other factors such as hair color, hardness, wavy and lush affect the outcome of the intervention. After the hair and scalp analysis of our patient, which is the most appropriate method, the patient’s priorities are taken into consideration and the patient’s decision is made. Although the FUE method is generally preferred, it may be necessary to use the FUT method in some cases. Hair transplantation can be applied not only for baldness but also for increasing the hair density in dilated areas.

How long does hair transplant last?

The operation takes few hours depending on the amount of hair loss. If the hairless area is too large, a few sessions may be required to complete the treatment. Generally, the intervention is performed under local anesthesia.

How long does it take to turn into social life after the hair transplant operation?

After hair transplantation, special bandage is applied to the head. The person can be discharged after 1-2 hours. It is possible to control with painkillers for pain which may be rare. Usually, after 3 days home rest, the head can be turned to work life. The first dressing is made on the 5th day.

Which area of the head is used for hair transplant?

In practice, hair follicles usually taken from the nape are sown in the targeted bald area. These hair follicles are called grafts. Rarely, in some cases there is not enough healthy hair in the person’s neck or temple. In such cases, hair follicles are taken from other parts of the hair, such as the arms or chest wall.

Does the hair loss seen after hair transplant?

Transplanted hair will be loosed within a few weeks. This is normal and they will come out again after 3-4 months. After this temporary spill has been recovered, the hair follicles sown protect their characters and do not spill. However, the original hair in the same area may continue to be shed over time and a new hair transplantation can be planned in the future due to reduced hair density. After surgery, hair loss progresses, especially if there is an unnatural appearance in the new hairline area, additional surgery may be necessary in the future.

What is the rate of success in hair transplantation?

In order for the team to be successful in operation, the hair follicles sown should be rapidly blooded in the area where they are placed. The right practice increases the success of hair transplantation. For a natural look, it is very important to plant the hair in the right distance, at the right angle and in the right density, to the bald areas.

Are there risks in hair transplantat surgery?

Like every medical intervention, hair transplantation has several risks. Hair transplantation is a long-lasting application and depending on the degree of purity may require several sowing in a period of 1-2 years. The possible complications are the inability to obtain the desired result, the infection and the obvious scar. All of these complications are very rare if the application is performed in a hospital environment by an experienced specialist. After the operation, pain, discomfort, some bruising and swelling can be monitored. In areas where hair is taken and sown, a spontaneous remission may occur within 2-3 months.
