Before your consultation for hair transplant

Before your consultation

Hair transplant procedures are the perfect treatment for those who have suffered hair loss or have bald patches which they want to disguise with hair. In some cases, we have had clients coming in for a hair transplant who don’t actually need one just yet.

Before you book a consultation it’s a great idea to have a look at our graft calculator in order to determine how severe your hair loss is, and use our online consultation tool. You can upload photos of your hair and we can contact you over the phone regarding a consultation and what treatment option we believe will be best for you.

During the consultation

One of our hair loss specialists will arrange a private consultation around a time that suits you to discuss treatment options. We will ask some key questions throughout the consultation and assess the extent of your hair loss to ensure we find the right treatment for you.

If you are not suffering with male pattern baldness, and your hair has just started to thin with no visible bald patches we might recommend a different hair loss treatment until we believe you are ready for a hair transplant.

If you are ready for a hair transplant procedure, one of our surgeons will discuss the procedure with you in detail and allow time for any questions you may have. Depending on how much hair you need transplanted, the treatment can be done within one session or you could need to come back twice. Once the consultation is over you will be booked in for your treatment.

The day of the treatment

Your surgeon will go over the surgery with you before you start to ensure you know exactly what is going to happen. You will be shown to your treatment room where we have facilities for you to play your music, watch TV or a film throughout your treatment all of which will be set up before we start.

Local anaesthetic is then used to minimise any discomfort and a custom built micro-surgical punch isolates individual follicular units from the donor area of the head which are carefully removed. The surgeon will then move on to the recipient area where a micro-surgical blade will create small incisions and the donor hairs are then inserted.

During your treatment you will be able to take breaks for water or to use the bathroom as you wish, we also provide a lunch menu for you to choose from. Our aim is to make your treatment as comfortable as possible so please do not hesitate to ask us for anything.

After the treatment

Unlike other hair transplant methods – for example strip surgery – FUE does not require large areas of the scalp to be harvested. As individual follicles are removed, it only leaves small, puncture scares which are almost invisible to the naked eye. After an FUE hair transplant there is hardly any post-surgical pain and discomfort. The average recovery time is usually less than 7 days.
