30 y/o female with hair loss, what do I do?

I first started noticing my very fine hair was thinning around 5 years ago. I’ve struggled with depression for a long time so I never did much about it, just accepted my fate I suppose. I should also note that I had a thyroidectomy in 2010 due to thyroid cancer.

My mom has very, very thin hair, there’s not much left on her head. She’s 58. I take this as a sign that my problem is genetic.

Well my hair is to the point that I am embarrassed to show it in public. It’s super obvious. I have thin patches on the back of my head and some on the sides, plus right at my hairline, all up by my crown. I’ve decided to actually do something about it. So I started with Rogaine about a month ago. I saw a dermatologist who said he’s ‘never seen anything like it, its unheard of’ (my hairloss), I really didn’t like his bedside manner and didn’t feel comfortable with him. He said to do Rogaine, Biotin, and a Hairmax laser (which is out of my price range). Is it worth it to get a second opinion? I’m discouraged by my first experience but I would like some answers to the cause of my hairloss.

I wrote this on female hair loss and you should read it will give you a good guide through the doctoring process. https://newhair.com/baldingblog/female-patterned-hair-loss-fphl-diagnosis-made-biopsy-no-solution-hair-loss-losing-200-hairsday/ . If your mom lost much of her hair, then you need to consider Scalp Micropigmentation which might work for your mom and maybe even for you if you can’t find a cause for your hair loss (see here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/smp-for-women/)
